My spousal-unit is big on the point-and-click games and frequents jayisgames.com. They gave you a nice tip o' the chapeau recently and pointed towards your Designer Diary.

Romance...I dunno, loom didn't have romance but I enjoyed it anyway. That said, I was kinda waiting throughout the game for a possibility of romance. That's it. The possibility is all you need. Like mia and Sasha in psychonauts. No romance, but a backstory was there that heightened all interactions between them. Imply things. Let the mind fill in the blanks.

Don't know the answer to that one, but here's a nerdy mom's two cents:

* I'd vote niche as there aren't as many games available for us wordies.

*A ROBUST and expandable dictionary is a must. I love the original Bookworm, but it's really got limits and the developers have no plans to increase the vocabulary. Cretins.
(Apologies for the use of the use of the "robust" up there--I know it's been hijacked for use only in corporate-type discussions, but it is the correct adjective for the request.)

*I also recommend not sweating the fact that your lead is a guy. It's a game, yes? And the women characters don't need to actually meet or talk; we have that elephant-like ability to communicate in those low, mainly unheard sonic rumbles. We're good.

Keep us up to date--I'll start saving my dollaroons for the release.

Second or third day I played it I went into settings (which you almost never see because they're "outside" the game in the main menu), and was thrilled to see I could turn that off. :heh: So perhaps something that's faster to access / more obvious (A "shut up already" option when it suggests something).

:)

Wanna know how i first heard about SpaceChem? Alex Davies from rgbfilter.com told me about it at an IGDA social. He IMPLORED me to buy it, like it was the most important thing in the world to him. Like, he really REALLY needed other people to play that game. He was so insistent about it, that he was making me a little nervous. i knew that the next time i saw Alex, he'd ask me if i played it. In fact, he Tweeted at me *that very night* to ask if i'd downloaded it. (i own a copy, and i met one of the developers in Seattle last year, but i still haven't played it. Sorry, Alex.)

i want to know what i have to do with my game to make somebody THAT excited. How do you manufacture Alexes?

Didn't mean to repeat the already stated, but I hadn't read Alexander Martin's comment yet, but I partially agree with him.

If you are making a game spending nothing but your spare time, building a game just because you like it: Either design the game for both, or design it for the niche. There are too many casual games out there anyway.

But if you are hoping for a return of investment: I still haven't the foggiest.
